I ran into a nice little surprise today over in Phra Khanong by the name of Chutney Indian. It sits on that first little street off of soi 71, right behind the W District.
It’s a cute little restaurant, bright and clean. It recently opened and caught my eye the other day so I was eager to give it a try. I learned that have a couple other locations around town and that they’ve been serving up Indian here in Bangkok for more than fifteen years. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised!! It had been a long time since I had had any Indian food. I like Indian food but I am not an avid Indian eater, so this was a great opportunity to give it a try.
When I eat Indian, I usually eat my usual butter chicken, palak paneer, tandoori chicken etc…. I did that here and it was good, but I took a chance and asked the waiter, Raju, to give me some recommendations. I can’t tell you how grateful I was for that.
The first thing I tried was the Mango Lassic. I loved it. This was maybe the first time I had ever had it and it was just bursting with flavor. Theirs are all made to order.
The Menu
Then we started out with some delicious little potato appetizers called Aloo Tikki. Watch out, these little babies are addictive!! It’s kinda like a hashbrown, but better.
Their Tandoori Chicken was cooked perfectly, very tender and moist. I love Tandoori Chicken, but hate it when it’s dry. This is not the case here at Chutney. It was delicious. Next up, we tasted the Chicken Tikka Masala Curry, Excellent!! Really nice taste to it.
The biggest surprise for me was their Daal. This is why I was so glad Raju told me about it. I do not normally order Daal, but he said it’s good and to give it a shot. Dude, it’s super good!!! Seriously, I couldn’t believe it!! It had this roasted or fried garlic on top and a deep rich flavor to it. I was amazed! I never knew it could be that good. That was just a real treat.
In addition to that, we tried the Chicken Tikki Masala. The Chicken Tikki Masala was pretty good. I know it’s really popular out here. It seems like someone always has that anytime I eat Indian. I had never had it before I came here. I don’t know if it’s as popular in America. The Palak Paneer and Butter Chicken was tasty as well as was the Saffron Rice and Garlic Naan.
Conclusion
Overall, this place is a “Go” for me. I was happy to have tried it and I’ll definitely be going back. The price was fair. The staff was very nice and welcoming. Thanks Raju. They are open for deliveries if you can’t make it in. This was a really good experience over there in Phra Khanong.
