This is a bad ass restaurant!!! I got to sit down with the owner/chef of ‘Moon Under Water’, Alesha the other day and it was an enlightening and pleasurable experience. He grew up in the far north of Russia. Way way up in the arctic circle he said. He’s been cooking in and around the kitchen since he was three years old. As a family business he had no choice but to take part as a little one. He went to college for drama but fell back on his roots in the kitchen to make his mark. He still does some dramatic performances at his place from time to time. You’ll have to check with him to see what he’s got going on once we get past this lockdown.
We started off with Russian dumplings that are homemade. These are a wonderful way to begin, really juicy and full of meaty flavor.
The food at Moon Under Water is off the chain!!!! Super Super good!! He put on a show for us the other day. Started out with a little Borsch to get things going. It’s a great soup, glowing red in color.
Then he made my favorite, beef stroganoff. It was so good, just a beautiful rich sauce and prime choices of meat. It just melted in my mouth. I could have eaten this all day long. Highly recommend trying it out.
We tried a great Pate on his homemade Rye bread that was out of this world! The bread is another must try here.
Let’s see, then he made some of his sausages for us. They too, were awesome. He puts his own mustard on them that tastes great! What else, we tried some pickled herring on his Rye bread that was quite tasty.
Then we had a wicked devilled egg with salmon and uni on top of it!!! It was delicious!! I’ve never had anything quite like it before. It’s a must try when you go. We also had a meat plate that was really good and definitely try his marinated tomatoes. They were to die for.
As a side note, we took in all this food with about a half a bottle of Bangkok Vodka, in true Russian style. He vouches for the Bangkok Vodka and I enjoyed it too. Another little something to try out while stuck at home.
I must say, everything about Moon Under Water is top notch. Alesha hand picks everything he uses in the kitchen to get the highest quality. You can definitely taste the difference. He’s a cool dude and running a first class restaurant. Moon Under Water does deliveries and can cater large parties as well.
He’s located in Phra Khanong just one street before you hit Rama 4 heading towards town. Give him a call for deliveries or inquiries about some tasty Russian treats.
