Ba Hao means house no. 8 in Chinese and their address is no. 8. Additionally 8 also a lucky number for Chinese people, fortune favours those, who name their business well! Ba Hao has been open for 3 years and the location boasts a bar and a homestay, as well. All this serves as an excellent gateway to the vibrant and upcoming culture of Chinatown.
Scallion Oil Noodle with Braised Pork
Ba Hao has been very smart in the way they deliver this, they seperate their soup and meat – away from the noodles, which are handmade from wheat flour containing no egg.
The meat is incredibly soft, almost exquisite in the way it falls apart. Thats because its slow cooked for 6 hours. The noodles really show the taste of hand-made, with a strong taste to accentuate and differentiate between store bought. . As you slurp this all up, you may notice that distinct rich taste that comes from the soupy sauce.
General Tso Chicken Claypot and rice
This one literally dances on your mouth, its spicy, but strangely not too spicy (at least for me). They also provided the eponymous fried egg, which again comes perfectly as i like it, not too hard, but not too soft and runny. All together when combined it provides a lovely texture with a slow burning spice and chill after taste that gently creeps up on you in the end..whilst being a bit punchy at the beginning. This magic is provided from a mixture of Chinese herb and spices. The addition of sesame seeds is a nice touch and must say its a lovely crispy element, again done just lovely. I think this overall is a standout dish and would be really interested to hear what other diners think in the comments below.
Chinese olive & mince pork claypot rice – WOW, so much going, that it’s simple a delight to a foodie. This is a complex set of tastes, its minced Chinese olive, with sharp bursts of micro portions of zesty lime, chunks of garlic and chilli bits to give it some punch, ending with a smattering of greens, such as coriander. It all sits on a bed of rice. This is really an awesome dish to be having, if you are after something truly unique with super bold favours.
Tan Tan Minced Pork Noodles – Ba Hao has done it again with a robust and unique taste and flavour. The soup is far from bland, is a good solid tase, highlighted with sesame seeds. It’s all mixed into a bed of noodles.
Gooseberry Passion Fruit Punch Ba Hao has a great and unique punch, this is great for quarantine lockdown. Isn’t it too boring to drink them on the rock or just tonic? Add some booze to Ba Hao’s ready to drink punch to make your quarantine weekend better than ever!
