Jamaica is known for so many wonderful things such as the fastest man on earth, great Jamaican rum, white sand beaches, Reggae music and so much more. I have been to this utopia and I could go on and on and on, but the most thing that Jamaica is proud of is its people. And it’s people have bought Jamaican Eatz to Bangkok!
Jamaica is nothing without its people like the diversity of it all rest on the shoulder of its people. Jamaicans are the backbone of the island, with smiles all year round and an everlasting faith that “Every Likke Ting A Go Be Alright”, and so, in other words, everything is going to be okay. Did you know they have a bobsled team as well, whom I have actually met in Canada?
Plantain – Sweet Fried Banana
A couple of years ago, I flew to Jamaica with a couple of besties. We went to Negril to celebrate a milestone birthday! When we landed on this gorgeous stunning paradise, we were welcomed with open arms, huge smiles and red stripe beer! What more could us ladies as for? We gazed over at each other in sync said: YAH MON!! Let’s Party!! The vibe in Negril was so beautiful and idyllic.
Normally, fried plantains are used instead of bananas, a true Caribbean fruit.. Although plantains, come from the same family as bananas, plantains are not eaten raw due to their very starchy nature, moreover, very difficult to find in this part of the world. Nevertheless, bananas are the perfect substitute and just as delicious! When I taste of these delicious morsels of fried banana caramelized in their own juices was to die for.
I am not particularly a fan of cooked banana but this was heaven in each nibble. The caramelized bananas with sprinkles of cinnamon, the texture was ideal. They were not mushy or smooshy! I love the way they added a subtle sweetness to the overall flavours mixed with rice and beans. I would take a spoonful of rice and beans and halfway through pop, a small banana in and WOW … an incredible mix of the sweet and savoury was sheer joy!
Crunchy Coleslaw
Jamaicans can always make you smile. Jamaica, is a tiny little island located smack in the center of the Caribbean, is known for its culture, beautiful landscape, but more than that, the reputation of the mellow people. Jamaicans are friendly and charming. They always bring their colourful personalities into any situation. Speaking of colourful, the coleslaw is the perfect side to the wonderful Caribbean essence, it is refreshing and crunchy in every bite!
I truly loved the Jamaican culture and food. In addition, Jamaican Eatz reminded me a lot of being back in the Caribbean. In my travels, I have visited the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Bahamas, Belize and of course Jamaica.
Beef Jerk Pattie
Jamaican beef patties are made with a flaky pastry and filled with seasoned beef filling. These baked hand pies can be found throughout the island at roadside food shacks, in snackettes, canteens all over the island. However, the Jamaican patties here at Jamaican Eatz in Bangkok, are absolutely the bomb! These mouth-watering beef patties can be ordered and delivered the same day from Jamaican Eats. They are like the island treats, flakey and super tasty! I actually turned on my Reggae Music playlist to jive with the music while I slowly savoured each and every selection.
There are heaps of ground chicken inside this roti, it really embodied Indian flavour mixed with Caribbean spices. It was super flavorful and pleasing to the palette. Slight hints of cinnamon, cloves, cassia and bay leave in the beans, is where I could taste. I squealed with delight when I was able to try authentic Caribbean food here in Bangkok and I was so pleased to find it. I spoke with the owner Phil and we had a wicked conversation about Caribbean food, the distinct flavours of the Caribbean and Jamaica of course. Excited for the COVID restriction to be uplifted to have a face to face dinner at Jamaican Eatz soon.
Anybody wanting to try all of the items on the menu? Ask the outstanding helpful staff which is most popular, and I am sure you will definitely want to try the combo. In addition, you can order more rice along with caramelized fried bananas and beans. Rice and beans are a staple in the Caribbean islands and are pretty much served with everything.
Jamaican Eatz offers a pretty good selection of Caribbean comfort food. As the main courses go, I would highly recommend the combo which has everything except Jamaican Rum. If you have been to the Caribbean, you will definitely appreciate the flavours which also fit with other islands close-by such as the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. They sure outdid themselves but infusing the flavours of the Caribbean.
Vegetarian Box
Please check out the gallery of photos and credit given to Jamaican Eatz restaurant. I wanted to showcase the most delicious Caribbean food EVER on this side of the world. I also love the little Chinese takeout boxes that you normally see in movies. That is SO New York if I do say so myself, visiting NYC a million times over and would go there in a New York minute. Particularly movies based in New York. This little box filled with scrumptious ecstasy may look small, however, it’s super stuffed with rice, beans chicken and fried bananas for mouth-watering goodness. Furthermore, they also have vegetarian options that will gratify the senses.
I feel so elated and grateful that I was able to review this wonderful eatery (Jamaican Eatz) located near Phra Kanong & Sathorn in Bangkok.
Pineapple/Coconut Dessert with Vanila Ice-Cream
Phil from Jamaican Eatz, thank you so much for sending me the extra chocolate ice cream!!
I definitely love the pineapple coconut patty with vanilla ice cream. This dessert was very interesting because it comes in a patty style which you would almost expect savoury, not sweet. However, this dessert patty had a combination of coconut and pineapple. Make sure to ask for more different varieties of desserts! Living in Thailand, who doesn’t love pineapple and coconut?
Now, as I write this review, it’s +36 here I’m craving more ice cream! I’m unsure of the other flavours of the sweet dessert patties but when I tried this was it was like a burst of Pina Colada in your mouth, mixed with a spoonful of Vanilla ice-cream – terrific!
With Love
