Lao Ti Fang credentials are vindicated by a constant stream of Chinese diners, which in my opinion, if a restaurant is well visited by it’s Nationals then it must be good! I must warn you, I go often to Lao Ti Fang so I have picked only my favourite dishes to share with you, dear audience. Expect nothing but positive comments and reviews. The second group of people that also offered me confidence was the large numbers of Japanese diners enjoying the cuisine. Japanese are the proverbial canaries in the cage. They know good food, and if they are there in numbers, it must be good.

In Chinese Lao Ti Fang means the place that you and your friends always hangout with, it’s a place for a great time and a lot of good memories. It seems to live up to that interpretation.
The menu
Mapo Tofu – A dish that is quite popular amongst Chinese folk, these is a favourite of many and a great dish to start on. Its chucks of soft tofu amongst a bed of minced pork and a strong hint of Mala, which is not overwhelming.
Sweet and Sour pork – A perennial favourite amongst westerners, this is done according to the Chinese style, so its a slight variation, but is a beautiful dish. They use natural chunks of pineapple to sweet, with a thin batter over the pork pieces and surrounded by a delicious sauce. This is definitely a must get, even if a Chinese person would turn their nose up at some so… Westernised!
Green Beans – a lovely dish that has steamed long beans mixed in with generous portions of garlic, and mixed in with minced pork, there seems to be slight hint of chilli as well.
Stewed Eggplant – another favourite that is a must order, at the restaurant it comes out quite hot, which simply adds to the marvel of it all. It’s stewed in a clay pot with minced pork and other things, its delicious from the first bite.
Shredded Sour Potato – Again a starting dish, humble and basic Chinese stir-fry dishes. The dish has been one of the most well-known home-style dishes. its shredded potato, with vinegar and a little garlic and chilli. just spicy enough to make your lips tingle
Xiao Long Bao – is a type of Chinese steamed bun that is considered to originate from Jiangsu province, especially associated with Wuxi and Shanghai. Lao Ti Fang had no problem producing a perfectly acceptable version of this. Do not miss dipping or even soaking this bad boy in the Chinese vinegar that accompanies this delivery.
Conclusion
The owners loved Chinese food so much, that they have long considered opening a venue that delivered a reasonable price, high quality food and enjoyable atmosphere. Therefore, they opened Lao Ti Fang to give people the option to enjoy traditional Chinese food as you would find in China. We want to let people from every country to know how delicious Chinese food is.
We found it to be delicious, and has been our go to restaurant for years. We recommend to give it a try, and decide for yourself.
